Bonnie Raitt "Take My Love With You"

{Music is Poetry}

Daylight, I think about you and wonder where you are
At night I’m wishing, looking at the stars,
But I don’t worry ‘bout you, I know that soon you’ll be home.

But while you’re gone,
Take my love with you.
Let it be the light that sees you through,
Chase away your blues.

Where you go and what you do,
Take my love with you.
I’ll be your talisman. I’ll be your lucky charm.
Put it in your pocket. Put it in your heart.

That in your weakness, baby, just let it help you along.
And make you strong
Take my love with you.
Let it be the light that sees you through,
Chase away your blues.

Where you go and what you do.
Take my love with you.
Take my love with you.
Take my love with you.

And if the world around you begins to crumble and fall,
It wouldn’t matter at all.
Take my love with you.
Let it be the light that sees you through,
Chase away your blues.

Where you go and what you do
Take my love with you.
Let it be the light that sees you through,
Chase away your blues.

Where you go and what you do,
Take my love with you.
Take my love with you.
Take my love with you.
Take my love with you.

Tristan Prettyman 'My Oh My'

{Music is Poetry}

You got my heart on a string
You want me back again and you know I’ll do anything
Just when I thought I was free
Knock, knock, the door is locked
But you still got a key

All too familiar, the moment it shows up
Now everything I know seems to fly

My oh my
You’re getting under my skin
Don’t know why I’m always letting you in
Just when I got my life together again,
Here you are standing there
Tell me why I should try-y-y
My oh my-y-y
My oh my-y-y
My oh my-y-y
My oh my-y-y

You got me under a spell
You look like heaven, oh, but you put me through hell
God knows there’s nothing to gain
Well who am I to deny, we’re both playing the same game
All too familiar, the moment it blows up
Now everything I know seems to fly

My oh my
You’re getting under my skin
Don’t know why I’m always letting you in
Just when I got my life together again,
Here you are standing there
Tell me why I should try-y-y
My oh my-y-y
My oh my-y-y
My oh my-y-y
My oh my-y-y

And I know that you’re no good for me
And it makes no sense at all
Still I keep coming back for more
‘Cause I’m addicted to your call

I know you ain’t no good for me
And all the lies and the lines you fed to me
The way you kept coming back for me
Like the last breath left of the air I need

I know you ain’t no good for me
And all the lies and the lines you fed to me
The way you kept coming back for me
Like the last breath left of the air I need

My oh my
You’re getting under my skin
Don’t know why I’m always letting you in
Just when I got my life together again,
Here you are standing there
Tell me why I should try-y-y
My oh my-y-y
My oh my-y-y
My oh my-y-y
My oh my-y-y

My oh my-y-y
My oh my-y-y
My oh my-y-y
My oh my-y-y

My oh my
I know you ain’t no good for me
And all the lies and the lines you fed to me

Love's Prisoner by Mariana Alley Griswold Van Rensselaer

This poem of the day sounds like it could easily be a song.

Von Rensselae, an American author, was the first woman architectural critic and she was president of the Public Education Association of New York.

Architecture and education. That's one smart lit chick. And now onto... love...

When Dreams Come True by Leonid Afremov from here

"Love's Prisoner"
Mariana Griswold Van Rensselaer (1851-1934)

Sweet love has twined his fingers in my hair,
And laid his hand across my wondering eyes.
I cannot move save in the narrow space
Of his strong arms' embrace,
Nor see but only in my own heart where
His image lies.
How can I tell,
Emprisoned so well,
If in the outer world be sunset or sunrise?
Sweet Love has laid his hand across my eyes.

Sweet Love has loosed his fingers from my hair,
His lifted hand has left my eyelids wet.
I cannot move save to pursue his fleet
And unreturning feet,
Nor see but in my ruined heart, and there
His face lies yet.
How should I know,
Distraught and blinded so,
If in the outer world be sunrise or sunset?
Sweet Love has freed my eyes, but they are wet.

What's your interpretation of this poem?

Brandi Carlile & The Lumineers "Down on the Corner"

Makes me want to get a washboard and start a band.

Early in the evenin' just about supper time,
Over by the courthouse they're starting to unwind.
Four kids on the corner trying to bring you up.
Willy picks a tune out and he blows it on the harp.

Down On The Corner, out in the street,
Willy and the Poorboys are playin';
Bring a nickel; tap your feet.

Rooster hits the washboard and people just got to smile,
Blinky, thumps the gut bass and solos for a while.
Poorboy twangs the rhythm out on his kalamazoo.
Willy goes into a dance and doubles on kazoo.

Down On The Corner, out in the street,
Willy and the Poorboys are playin';
Bring a nickel; tap your feet.

Down On The Corner, out in the street,
Willy and the Poorboys are playin';
Bring a nickel; tap your feet.

You don't need a penny just to hang around,
But if you've got a nickel, won't you lay your money down?
Over on the corner there's a happy noise.
People come from all around to watch the magic boy.

Down On The Corner, out in the street,
Willy and the Poorboys are playin';
Bring a nickel; tap your feet.

Down On The Corner, out in the street,
Willy and the Poorboys are playin';
Bring a nickel; tap your feet.

Down On The Corner, out in the street,
Willy and the Poorboys are playin';
Bring a nickel; tap your feet.

"Next To Me" by Emeli Sande

I tell my little ones that music is poetry set to a rhythm.

I also tell them the cubby monsters come out at night and eat their pencils that they leave out.

Anyway! I heard this song on the radio recently and it resonated with me. Right song, right lyrics, right time.

Read and listen.

Emeli Sande
"Next To Me"

You won't find him drinking at the tables
Rolling dice and staying out til three
You won't ever find him being unfaithful
You will find him, you'll find him next to me

You won't find him trying to chase the devil
For money, fame, for power, out of grief
You won't ever find him where the rest go
You will find him, you'll find him next to me

Next to me, ooooh
Next to me, ooooh
Next to me, ooooh
You will find him, you'll find him next to me

When the money's spent and all my friends have vanished
And I can't seem to find no help or love for free
I know there's no need for me to panic
Cause I'll find him, i'll find him next to me

When the skies are grey and all the doors are closing
And the rising pressure makes it hard to breathe

Well, all I need is a hand to stop the tears from falling
I will find him, I'll find him next to me

Next to me, ooooh
Next to me, ooooh
Next to me, ooooh
I will find him, I'll find him next to me

When the end has come and buildings falling down fast
When we spoilt the land and dried up all the sea
When everyone has lost their heads around us
You will find him, you'll find him next to me

Next to me, ooooh
Next to me, ooooh
Next to me, ooooh
You will find him, you'll find him next to me

Next to me, ooooh
Next to me, ooooh
Next to me, ooooh
You will find him, you'll find him next to me
