Dia De Los Muertos Home Decor

Pinterest plus a glass (or two) of inspiration equals... Julie does arts and crafts!

Dia de los Muertos is my new favorite holiday. (Kinda obsessed.)

When you're 28. Married. No kids. Dying to travel (that pun was totally intended). Then you decorate your house for autumn and Dia De Los Muertos.

I had Halloween decorations. I brought out the box. Put half of them up while watching "Bridesmaids" on HBO.

But it just wasn't working. The decorations. I am just not feeling the Charlie Brown Halloween right now.

Here are ideas to decorate your house, Dia De Los Muertos style.

{BANNERS}

This pic is from Cedric's Privacy Blog
This arts project is better when there's a black cat there to assist you.
 Take green, red, pink, blue, orange, yellow and red construction paper.
 Fold the pieces of paper in half, hot dog style.
 Cut in half.
 Double up the pieces. Fold them in half again, hot dog style. Make sure someone is watching you to ensure you're doing it right.
 Trace this pattern on one of the sides. (I don't have Photoshop or anything fancy, but I just made this up.)
 Cut on your traces. Open the pieces up. You should have two banners with two skulls on each one.
 Then take markers and draw some doodles on the skulls, to fancy them up.
But not too many markers, or someone will get sassy.

Oh, hell. Just buy them here.

{FIGURINES}

I recommend setting up a shelf, preferably something that's the focal point of the room. Display these figurines, in this order:

Dancing senorita.

Declaracion de amor.

Dancing senorita.

And while you get crafty and decorate-y, you should...

Drink this.

Eat this.
